One of the most effective things you can add to your makeup is illuminators. They give your skin a beautiful sheen and highlight things that you want people to notice, they also make your skin look healthy and youthful. What’s not to love about them.
When using an illuminator you highlight areas that you want to be noticed. The one area that everybody should highlight is your cheekbones. When doing this I always highlight from the top of the eyebrow and bring it onto the cheek bone in a large ‘C’ shape. What this does is widen your face and gives you a beautiful lustre to your skin. You can also highlight the bridge of your nose.

The first and possibly the illuminator that I use most is from Australian brand Becca. It is called Shimmering Skin Perfector in Pearl. It is a water-based moisturizer with an SPF of 20+, which is full spectrum, and light-diffusing particles of shimmer which creates radiance and reduces imperfections. I use this on almost every client that I do, be it on a shoot or just a client at home. I generally mix it with MAC Face and Body, which gives the whole face a beautiful finish. You can also just highlight specific areas. The only place that it is available to buy in Ireland is in a mega store on South Anne Street called Aviary Lane.

The powder highlighter that I use mostly is from boutique brand Kevyn Aucoin, it’s called The Celestial Powder in Candlelight. It is the perfect tone just to create highlight spots on your skin. The powder has a creamy texture and blends amazingly. It comes with a good quality application brush made from natural bristles. You can get it from Space NK @ Harvey Nichols and costs €45.00

Possibly one of my all time favourite highlighters ever, Luna from Chanel is just perfect. The very sad news here is that it was a special edition a few years ago and is not available. When I first saw it I bought all that the counter had, I happened to be in France a few weeks later and I went around stores trying to find it and when a counter had it I panic bought it and ended up with about 8 of them, I am now on my last one and only use it on very special days, I know I shouldn’t write about things that you can’t buy, but there you go I did!
Chanel do have other offerings that you can use as a highlighter one being the Stardust blush. As always with Chanel is has the most amazing texture and finish. Available from all Chanel outlets and costs €45.00 it is a limited edition and I predict that it will sell out very fast so get your skates on!

Touché Éclat is one of the worlds most popular cosmetic products, one selling every few seconds. It is a beautiful product when used right but it is used incorrectly a lot. It is a beautiful illuminator not such a great concealer! Last year YSL launched it in 6 more colours so there is a Touché Éclat for all skin tones now. It is available is all YSL stockists nationwide and costs €35.50

Tom Ford’s Shade and Illuminate is one of my favourite products ever. The illuminating part is the perfect colour and texture to give your skin the most amazing look. Sheer and light in texture it just gives you a perfect finish. Again it is only available in Brown Thomas Dublin and Cork. Costs €67.00.

Lancôme’s Éclat Miracle was one product that really surprised me when I tried it out. I had a preconceived notion of what Lancôme products where and I am glad to say that they floored me with this beautiful product. It is very similar to Becca’s Pearl but it is lighter in texture, so it is really perfect for certain skin types. It is one of my secret weapons when doing makeup, making your skin look light and healthy. It is available in all Lancôme stockists and costs €27.00.
