Last week we saw the Chanel AW 2013 Show in Paris. The Chanel show is one show that I always enjoy. One day I would love to be in the audience soaking up the creative atmosphere. The clothes are always sublime and the makeup and hair is always perfect. Peter Philips is the makeup artist who has created the makeup looks for the Chanel shows for the past number of years. Apparently Peter is stepping down as creative director of Chanel Makeup a move that I’m sad about, I think he has brought us some incredible products since he has been in the position, including my all time favourite highlighter Luna and he also brought us the most amazing gel eye shadows a few seasons ago and that is just two of the products that he has been part of the making of.
It would be a real shame if he didn’t work on their shows as I think he is a genius. For this show the makeup was incredibly simple yet really beautiful. The skin was prepared with Hydra Beauty Serum from Chanel, which is the most beautiful hydrating serum, which hydrates your skin without leaving it feeling oily. And then to achieve the perfect complexion Peter used Vitaluniere Aqua on the majority of the face concealing anything that needed to be concealed with Correcteur Perfection, adding beautiful highlights with Éclat Lumiere and then setting the whole look with Poudre Universelle Libre. To achieve the perfect flush of colour on the cheeks Peter used Le Blush Creme de Chanel in Inspiration N°64 which is part of the Fall Collection 2013.
The eyes were the only place that a statement was made. A sheer coat of a neutral shadow from Les 4 Ombres Prélude N°33 was applied to the lid area and then Le Crayon Khol in Clair N°69 was used on the inner water line and Le Crayon Khol in Noir Black N°01 was used under the bottom lash line, leaving the smallest space of skin visible. The lashes were curled with Recourbe Cils De Chanel, which is a great lash curler, my favourite thing about it is that they are black with Chanel written on them in white, I’m a sucker for the Chanel logo! Then liberal amounts of Le Volume De Chanel mascara was applied to the top lashes only. The beautiful sequins that were used on the upper lashes and lid, just like an eyeliner, are not going to be on sale on the Chanel counters but you can find similar ones, if you find some make sure they have the beautiful platinum colour and are not too shiny. And don’t forget to groom your brows! Sometimes it is just a case of brushing your brows and your makeup looks more polished.
The perfectly simple lip was achieved by using Rouge Coco Shine Instinct N°86 which is also part of the Fall Collection 2013. No liner was used just a perfect amount of the sheer lipstick.
The nails were again really simple and very wearable, the pink is a beautiful shade that almost any skin tone could wear. It is from Le Vernis and is called Elixir N°589 and will be part of the Fall Collection 2013.
The hair was again super simple. It was straight but with the smallest amount of body’s at the roots. Really beautiful and I’m so glad to see straight hair on the runway again!
Sometimes I think simple is best, and this case proves my theory. You do not have to reinvent the wheel when doing your makeup, if you get the basics right everything will look stunning!
