Tom Ford can do no wrong in my eyes. From his exquisite mens wear to his incomparable makeup range. This July Tom Ford is launching two new fragrances which will be part of his best selling Neroli Portofino collection. The two new fragrances, Costa Azzurra and Mandarion Di Amalfi along with the original are inspired by the seductive atmosphere of the Mediterranean. I think all of the private blend fragrances from Tom Ford are unisex, but then I love floral fragrances, not every man loves to smell of flowers!
The origional Neroli Portofino, one of my favourite smells in the whole world, I bought a bottle in the Tom Ford store in New York weeks after it was opened and was not available anywhere else in the world for ages, I really felt very special. I have been wearing it ever since. This fragrance opens with a fusion of citrus oils – Tunisian Neroli, Sicilian lemon, winter yellow mandarin and Italian bergamot – which evokes the ritual of inhaling Neroli oil from the region’s prized bitter orange tree. Surprising undertones of lavender, orange flower, rosemary and amber give the fragrance its rich complexity, creating a splashy yet substantive impression.
Mandarion Di Amalfi, which I have not yet sampled but by this discription I think I will love it opens with tarragon, spearmint, blackcurrant bud with sleek mandarin fruits, bergamot and grapefruit. Lemon sfumatrice, an artisanal pressed lemon oil, and a twist of basil, create the delectable hint of a basil-limoncello cocktail. Cool black pepper and coriander seed rise up through a concentrated orange oil. A floral core emerges with the richest orange flower, clary sage and a duet of jasmine which notes capture the flower’s creamy depth as well as its bright, fresh whiteness. The background unfolds with the brightest, liveliest and most luminous aspects of vetiver roots. Amber and labdanum lend texture, while musk and civet bring a pulsing flicker of warmth. Actually sounds like Mr. Ford has designed a fragrance just for me!
Costa Azzurra smells like holidays, a really fancy holiday! The fragrance opens with a hint of focus, a species of seaweed, and then the sandy, salt- baked wood notes of driftwood accord and agarwood accord. A spicy shimmer of ambrette seed, celery seed, and cardamom conveys glints of freshness. A combination of armoise, juniper berry, myrtle, basil and French lavender lilt into crisp Italian lemons and yellow mandarin. The presence of dense coastal forests of oak, cedar and cypress is unmistakable. Ambery citrus and resin from the lentisque shrub and smoky olibanum, incense and vetiver oil touch the air with sensuality, as carnally rich vanilla completes the composition.
As with all Tom Ford products the packaging is mega. The trio of fragrances bottles are in inspired by sea and sky shades of blue. The Neroli Portofino bottle is the anchor of the collection in its aqua-blue bottle. Costa Azzurra is a deep ocean blue and Mandarion Di Amalfi is in a light azure.
Neroli Portofino is available now, Costa Azzurra and Mandarion Di Amalfi will be available from mid-July. Meanwhile I will be smelling of a fancy holiday while enjoying our supposed heat wave!!
