When I saw the new Céline campaign last night my heart skipped a beat. It’s beautiful. All too often in our world wrinkles and grey hair are seen as undesirable and unwanted. Now, don’t get me wrong I’m all about delaying the inevitable, but I’m still in my 30’s and a man. It’s more socially acceptable for men to age but women are expected to look 29 forever. It’s unrealistic and frankly I find women who embrace ageing gracefully the most beautiful.
I love that Céline have used Joan Didion for some of their campaign shots, she is a legend! And the other shots in the campaign where inspired by the shot of Joan above. These feature super model Daria Werbowy.
This got me to thinking, how often do we see women with actual lines on their faces in beauty campaigns? Very rarely. Clarins had a launch last year for a new moisturiser and serum aimed at women over 50 and they used a model who was incredibly beautiful but looked her age, looked amazingly well for her age but looked to be in her 50’s which I found both refreshing and powerful. The cream is really beautiful, Mammy Daly has an addiction now.
There are of course all the celebrity faces of brands, women in their 50’s and 60’s but more often than not they are so photoshopped it could be an image taken 30 years ago! So basically what I would love to see is everyone embracing our age and wearing our wrinkles with pride!
Beauty really has no age or limits.
