Couture Shows are so exciting, it where you see clothes that inspire your imagination. They inspire the ready-to-wear collections that follow, but most importantly they are where all the heavy hitters stretch their creativeness. Karl Lagerfeld without a doubt is the Grand Dame of the fashion industry. Nobody has his experience or wealth of knowledge, with most fashion houses having the hot new thing at the forefront of their business. This is of course brilliant news for the house, but does it mean that the industry that we all love is being forgotten about?? Is the fashion industry destained to be of the Instagram generation? This excites me and terrifies me in equal amounts, excites me as the shows will be far more accessible to you and me, terrifies me as all the mystery will be gone. I think it may be that I am of a different generation and having access to such splendour was a huge privilege not an expected demand, I remember waiting for the Elle Runway Report to be published so I could get a good look at the clothes, hair and makeup. Now people are snap-chatting from backstage so you can get a look at whats happening before anyone lucky enough to be sitting in the front row does. Is this right?? Possibly I am on the fence.
Anyway I am showing my age here, heres a closer look at the shows makeup, I imagine that is why you’re still reading. Also I am aware of the irony that in the last paragraph I was wondering if seeing all this magical work right after the show is right and here I am sharing the photos with you………….
Makeup master Tom Pecheax created the look.
What I loved about this Chanel show is that Karl decided to include the Ateliers, their seconds and the seamstresses in the show. He literally replicated the ateliers of Chanel’s rue Cambon flagship location. Ateliers were working while the show was on. and Karl took his finale walk alongside these amazingly talented bunch. Without the skills of the ateliers no dresses would ever be made, the get the drawing from Karl and they figure out how to make it possible. If you have not seen the documentary series following a season in the House of Chanel I highly recommend it, it’s wonderful, even my Glenn loved it!
“I thought that was a modern idea to make them participate. They should be shown too.”
